13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
What a time of year to read and study that verse! As we have gone through this tumultuous election season, it is easy to not have joy or peace. Or maybe it’s more personal than the elections – maybe you’ve suffered a devastating person loss, of a loved one, of a job, of a dream. How do we have joy or peace in this season of our life?
Alone we don’t. We can’t. Many times we look to other sources to give us that joy – external sources like shopping, drugs, alcohol, sex… We won’t find joy there, and we certainly won’t find peace.
This verse starts with the answer for where to find it, in fact the only place to find it – God. And the verse says He can FILL YOU WITH IT. If what? If we TRUST IN HIM. He carries us through our darkest times, He rejoices with us in our happiest times. He wants us to be overflowing with the hope, the power, the joy and the peace that only comes when we trust in Him.
Are you trusting him? When the road gets rocky, do you trust yourself to navigate it? Or do you cling to the One who made you, who wants to be reunited with you in Heaven some day? Do it. Cling to Him, trust in Him, and let your life overflow with His goodness. He will surprise you. He will never leave you.
