Ephesians 3:17-19

Ephesians 3:17-19

 So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

It doesn’t matter how powerful your car engine is, if you don’t have gas in the gas tank you won’t go very far or very fast.  It doesn’t matter how sporty it looks, if it won’t go it won’t impress many people.  What Paul is expressing here is a similar truth.  If we don’t grasp how great God’s love is for us, we can’t be filled with God’s fullness in our lives.  And if we don’t have God in our lives, all that we accomplish in this life is meaningless.

May we take the time to dwell on the magnitude of God’s love for us, we can appreciate what a blessing that is, and as we get a grasp on that, our lives take on a whole new significance.  Our lives will be lived in gratitude for the love He bestowed on us.  As we do that, we focus on the things that truly have meaning here.  It is only the things that we do that have eternal importance that really matter here.
