Heritage from the Lord

Mike Seale

“Sons are indeed a heritage from the Lord, children, a reward.” Psalm 127:3

The writer tells us children are a gift from God. When they are little and draw pictures at preschool that we put on our refrigerator, they are pretty awesome. When they are teenagers and young adults we often look for the return line at Customer Service. But children are non-returnable and non refundable. However, God will eventually want them back from you but not until He achieves His purpose for both parents and children.
Most Christian dads are clear on God using us to mold and shape the character and heart of our sons and daughters. But often we miss the fact that God is using them to mold, shape and transform us. To be a good dad means sacrifice. Investing time, money, energy, emotions and at times tears. When we love our kids even when they disappoint us or break our heart, we gain an insight into the heart of our Heavenly Father. He never gives up on us. He is there ready to forgive, help, bless and encourage us in the battle called life.
Today, try and think of the different ways your children are shaping or have shaped your life. Then pray thanking God for using them to change you.
