Day 1 Fear or Faith
Scripture: Deuteronomy 3:22 “Do not be afraid of them, for the Lord your God will personally fight for you.”
Psalm 56:11 “In God I have put my trust, I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?”
In recent days we have been personally impacted by the coronavirus. Schools closing, trips cancelled, churches going on-line, and now groups of more than ten are asked not to assemble. For months it has been a distant problem, something across the sea, in another country, another nation, but now it’s here. Now that the virus has become a greater risk, we are witnessing panic and fear, greed and selfishness. Store shelves are emptying and people are stock-piling toilet paper (not quite sure I get that one) along with other goods. This is being done without consideration for others and their families. We have seen people grabbing everything they could to take care of themselves. We have watched the stock market drastically tumble which is no surprise because the market has always been driven by greed and fear. But these are not the attitudes of believers who follow Christ!
Jesus spoke strongly against those who are consumed with worry, especially in regard to what they will eat and drink, (Matthew 6:25-34). We may not realize it, but fear and worry are sins. Worry is saying, “I don’t trust you GOD to provide for me and my needs.” Yes, we are to be sensible, but not filled with greed and selfishness. Let those who follow Jesus, repent of our actions; actions that are rooted in greed, worry and fear. Instead, let us profess our faith and confidence in the GOD who provides. Jehovah-Jireh, Genesis 22:14.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, we begin this journey by praising you for the mighty GOD you are. Who is among the gods is like you? Who is majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders? (Exodus 15:11). We take this moment to ask for cleansing, to forgive our sins and all our attitudes of fear, worry and greed. Because of the blood of Jesus and your promises in Him, we thank you for taking away all of our sins. Father in Heaven, we call out to you, we cry out to you in our distress. We need you, Father, to intervene and defeat this coronavirus. We do not pray in fear, instead we pray in faith. We know that in all things you are sovereign, you are in absolute control. We confess trust in You and You alone. We pray for all those who have come into contact with this virus. We ask for your healing in their lives. We give you praise for men and women who are working tirelessly to find a remedy, a solution to this virus. Father, we also pray for people everywhere to turn to you as the One who heals our spiritual sickness through the mighty work of Jesus. It is in the name and the authority of Jesus we pray, Amen.
