Scripture: 2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
There is movement taking place among churches throughout the world. It is called UNITE714. A number of leading ministers, pastors and preachers have gotten together to unite the world-wide “CHURCH” in a call for prayer at 7:14 am and 7:14 pm. It is based on the scripture found in 2 Chronicles 7:14. The context of the passage follows the dedication of the temple. Solomon has finished building the place where worship and sacrifices will take place. It has been an incredible dedication. Solomon himself offered twenty-two thousand cattle, a hundred and twenty thousand sheep and goats in the dedication of this temple. The priests and Levites took their positions as well “with the LORD’s musical instruments, which king David had made for praising the LORD and which were used when he gave thanks, saying, ‘his love endures forever,’” (2 Chronicles 7:6). What a day of worship!
When Solomon finished the temple and the royal palace and succeeded in carrying out all he had in mind to do in the temple, the LORD appeared to him at night and said, “I have heard your prayer and have chosen this place for myself as a temple for sacrifices. When I shut the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, if my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land,” (2 Chronicles 7:12-14).
One of the troublesome characteristics of GOD’s people, for practically every generation since the beginning, is to bring culture and worldliness into our lives. It is easy to point fingers at what others are doing, especially those who do not profess faith in Jesus Christ. Israel struggled mightily with it when they entered the land of Canaan. To me, the passage above is reflective of the “blessing and cursing” Moses spoke about in Deuteronomy 28. They were warned over and over not to make covenants nor enter into agreements with the idolatrous nations that lived in the land of promise. Yet time and again, Israel refused to follow GOD and found themselves wrapped up in the culture of idolatry that surrounded them. We see this repeated in the book of Revelation as John addresses the seven churches in Asia Minor. Culture and worldliness had become so much a part of the church that you could not tell the difference between a believer and a non-believer.
UNITE714 is a movement to call GOD’s people to live and act like GOD’s people. To repent, to turn away from sin and cry out to GOD’s mercy and grace to heal our land. If you want to learn more about this movement, you can go to UNITE714.com and find the weekly prayers and at 7:14 am and 7:14 pm join with fellow believers and pray for GOD to heal our land.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, there have been times that I behave more like an unbeliever than a believer. I have thoughts and words come out of my mouth that are uncharacteristic of the holy way you have called me to live. You WORD tells us, “For GOD did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life,” (I Thessalonians 4:7). I pray, Father, for your Holy Spirit to correct and convict me when I depart from your way of holiness and to lead me to walk as a true follower of Jesus. I join with my brothers and sisters in Christ and pray for you to heal our land. I pray for this to be a great time of revival and for believers to turn back to you and for those who are not followers to confess faith in Christ, repent and have their sins washed away by the blood of the lamb. I pray this in Jesus Christ who is LORD, Amen.
I agree. Christ prayed for unity. We haven’t exactly been leaders in this effort.
