Day Six

Day Six of the Forty Days of Prayer (January 7, 2011)

Matthew 20:22 (NIV)
“You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them.  “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?”

Matthew 26:36-39
Jesus went to his disciples and said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.  My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. … My Father, if it possible, may this cup be taken from me.  Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

Meditation Thought:  Commitment to God is sacrificial.

Prayer:  Dear God and Father, I know that Jesus is Your Son and that You sent Him to be sacrificed for my sin.  Forgive me when I fail to be faithful.  Just like the disciples, I often turn and run away when the “cup of sacrifice” is put before me.  I pray that I will be faithful and committed to doing Your will just as Jesus was committed, even to death.  I pray to be God-centered, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
