Part Two: Serve Willingly (Days 9-16)
Service is when we put our faith into action. As long as it is just a concept within our minds, it may be a powerful thing, but it is not evident to those around us. People probably don’t see our faith or our prayer lives. They are somewhat like the foundation of a house that goes down deep underground and provides the support for what is built above. What they see is the way we serve other people. This is like a house that is built on the foundation. Without the foundation, the house can’t exist — but without the house, there is no purpose served by the foundation. May we put our faith and our prayers into action through the service we offer to God and to the people He created, who are all around us.
__________
Word:
For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. (Mark 10:45)
Meditation Thought: The ver name we wear, “Christian,” means that we are to be like Christ. If we are to be like Christ, we’ll be doing the things He came to do — serve others.
Prayer: God, it’s so easy for us to get wrapped up in the things that we want. Help us to get beyond that and look for the ways we can help others. More than that, help us to have the faith that when we provide for others, You will provide the things we need. We need so badly to expand our vision — please direct our attention to the windows of opportunities around us rather than the mirrors of self-centeredness which we so often stare into. In the name of the One who set our example of service, Amen.
