There are places in Scripture where God’s people are called upon to make up their mind about God. Either He is the LORD GOD, Creator and Sustainer of all life or He is not. And if He is, then how should that impact how I live? There are times in our lives, often crossroads and crisis moments, where this becomes the most evident. Elijah, when facing 450 prophets of Baal & 400 prophets of the Asherah, challenged Israel and all those gathered, “today we decide who is GOD, no more wavering.” (I Kings 18:18-21). If Baal is God then follow him, but if the LORD is GOD, then follow Him. We all know what happened when the LORD GOD thundered from heaven in response to Elijah’s prayer. James also tells us when we ask GOD for wisdom we are not to “doubt” GOD’s ability or power to answer our prayers. Doubting leads to being tossed around like waves in the ocean, we become “double-minded” (“two-souled”) about GOD and “unstable in all our ways.” (James 1:5-8).
The challenge today is not to doubt or waver when we ask GOD for answers, wisdom and direction about our lives. Nor to give up if we do not receive His immediate response. We are to forge through with a determined perseverance and faith knowing that GOD will give what He promises. Be blessed today as you decide who is The LORD GOD. Then follow, serve and glorify Him.
